Aqua Vase - Gorgeous TJ Maxx Score

My mom picked up this vase for me for Valentine's Day from TJ Maxx.  Adorable right?  And for under $20 it's a total score.  I added the flower arrangements but the color is amazing.  I always get my glass decor from the Maxx and I am never disappointed!

Lucky Baby

Some of our best friends recently had a baby, and I am so excited it was on St. Patrick's day!  The beautiful Everly entered the world at about 8 PM on the 17th so I couldn't wait to get started on her welcome home gift.

Thankfully, Dollar Tree had a ton of cute stuff with pink for Easter so I was able to fill up a cute basket with all sorts of stuff!  I gave myself a limit of $10 and this is what I came up with:
Bunny and Teddy Bear $1 each.  Box of animal crackers $1.  Chips ahoy $1.  Granola bars (from my pantry)

Baby lotion $1.  Baby shower candle $1.  Hand cream $1.  Wash cloths pack $1.
Pink Baby Ribbon $1
I already had some clear cellophane, and I spent $1 to store all the goodies.  I designed and printed out a pink four leaf clover and made it into a card.  I also had some leftover stickers and accessories from a baby shower a couple years ago, so that added a little bling.  Final project was a success!  $10 for all items.

Overalls on Wardrobe Remix Monday

Yet another trend I've struggled to get on board with - overalls.  I suppose I still have cringe worthy vivid visions of the loose farmer look pair I sported for years from 6th-9th grade, ugh.

The new trend uses cleaner lines and slimmer tailoring so admittedly the trend has come a long way.  Whether you love or hate them, here's 7 ways to wear with nothing over $50.  Happy Monday and Happy Shopping y'all!

Oreo Trifle

We have some guests coming over this weekend so I needed to throw together a yummy dessert on the fly.  As usual, I reverted to my specialty: trifles!  I made this one up but it was delicious!

Ingredients:
Oreos
Vanilla Pudding
Chocolate Pudding
Cool Whip
Oreo Treat Box (picked up a couple at Aldi a while back)

Directions:
Follow the directions for each step on the treat box.  I did the cookie crust first, then a layer of the cream filling.  I then alternated pudding/cool whip/cookie crumbs (twice to fill my bowl).  On top I layered with oreos and I was done.  Once again, my trifle saved me with an easy dessert under $10.

Cookie Monster Party - A First Birthday in the Works

Hudson's first birthday is coming up and I cannot believe it's come so soon!  I now appreciate what people mean when they say time flies.

More to the point, I spent a while thinking on what to do for his birthday, and I finally settled on a cookie monster themed 1st!  Here's a little teaser of what's to come - these are the invitations I made.  Keep on the lookout, I'll be posting them for sale on my Etsy page soon =).  Stamps are from Zazzle, 20 for $23.75.

As a child of the 80s, it's taken me a long time to get on board with this trend, but since it seems to be sticking, I guess I'll have to try it.  Denim shorts 7 ways, but I beg you, please don't buy some that show your butt cheeks, even if they look like you stepped out of the brazilian butt lift video.  As usual, nothing over $50.  Happy Monday and Happy Shopping y'all!

Bedroom Accents with a Chaiiiiiiiiise

Anyone seen the Haverty's commercial about the chaise?  My husband says the woman is me.  I'm pretty sure he's right.  Technically, this new addition is not a chaise, but is a similar style with a settee.  I just can't get enough tufting & velvet in my house.  Though the color was a bit more blue than I imagined (I thought I was getting the pool), I still think it looks great against our moody grey walls.  I ordered mine from Wayfair but since their customer service was terrible, I can't recommend them.  However, Target now has this piece for less at $449.99!

There is also a true chaiiiiiiise option here for $396.95.  The pillows are from Z Gallerie (no longer available but I also like these).  Print is from where else - Kirkland's!  I did not see it online but this one is also really beautiful and would look amazing framed.

Creamy Tomato and Spinach Pasta with Grilled Chicken on What's for Dinner Wednesday

I was shopping at Aldi the other day and they had chicken on sale for $1.93 a lb!  Naturally, I wanted to stock up and I bought 4 packages.  So we'll be having chicken for a while, but it's lean and healthy so can't hurt right!

I found a recipe for this tomato & spinach pasta and decided to add grilled chicken to it.  I have a bad habit of forgetting to take photos until the end, but this was too good not to share!  Here's the recipe with my lone photo.

In total I spent $1,93 on the chicken, $0.49 for diced tomatoes, and $1.99 for spinach.  A meal for under $5 since I had the rest of the ingredients already in my kitchen.

Original recipe here

Ingredients
1 lb chicken
1 TBSP olive oil
1 small onion, diced
2 cloves garlic (I used my minced garlic from the fridge)
1 can diced tomatoes
1/2 tsp oregano
1/2 tsp basil
pinch red pepper flakes
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
2 TBSP tomato paste (I opened up the fridge and mine was molding so I made some with tomato sauce - see how here)
2 oz cream cheese
1/4 cup grated parmesan
1/2 lb tomato flavored pasta (I had some birds nests from a sale at Aldi a few weeks back)
1 bag fresh spinach

Directions:
Pre-heat your grill to medium-high.  Add chicken and cook until a bit charred and no longer pink  in the center.  I completely forgot to season mine with anything but it ended up being fine since the pasta is so flavorful!
While grilling, boil pasta until tender (7-10 minutes) and start on the sauce.
For the sauce, add diced onion and garlic to olive oil and heat on medium-high for 5 minutes.
Turn your chicken on the grill if you haven't yet.
Add the entire can of diced tomatoes, oregano, basil, red pepper, salt, pepper and stir to combine. Add the tomato paste and 1/2 cup of water, stirring until the paste is dissolved.
Turn the heat down to low and add the cream cheese, stirring until it's fully melted.
Add half the Parmesan, doing the same and finally the last bit of Parmesan.
Turn your chicken on the grill again and check your pasta - if it's ready, drain it.
Add the spinach and stir until it's wilted, about 3-5 minutes.
Add the pasta and stir until all ingredients are mixed well.
Pull the chicken off the grill and slice, serving on top of the pasta.

Home Decor from Kirkland's - Fabulous Score with New Lamps

As I've mentioned in previous posts, I love Kirkland's.  If I had to pick one home decor store to shop at for the rest of my life, it would be them, hands down.  I've been searching recently for a pair of aqua table lamps for my living room sofa table, and of course I scored them at Kirkland's.  The only issue I found was the shades were in burlap - cute, but not my thing.  The one's I have I purchased in store, but here's a couple extras that are similar, available online:

Left $52.49 each // Right $59.99 each

My version is shown below.  I swapped out the shades with cream faux dupioni ones from Hobby Lobby for $15 each on a 50% week.  I also sold the original burlap ones that came with my lamps for $25 so these ended up only costing me $5!  Plus the lamps (retailed for $29.99 in store, I used a 15% coupon) this project totaled $55.  The gladiolas are from HL too $7.49 each on a 50% off week.

Zucchini Pasta with Shrimp on What's for Dinner Wednesday

My husband and I have been working together lately to get healthier, and one of the goals is lowering his cholesterol.  The doctor advised that we should eat more vegetable and whole wheat pasta to help.  I decided to try out a recipe using zucchini noodles and it was suprisingly good!  Albeit, a bit crunchier than regular pasta, you could probably peel off the skin to alleviate if that's your preference as well.

I started with purchasing a spiralizer for $9.99 with $5 coupon.  I was a little skeptical at first since this was such an affordable product, but my experience was very good.  I only wish the "thick" noodle slicer was a bit larger.

The rest of the ingredients I either had in my fridge or purchased at Aldi.  Total expense for purchased items: $1.99 for 3 cucumbers, $6.99 for 1 lb of jumbo shrimp, $1.99 box of garlic bread.  Under $10 for two - works for me!

Original recipe here

Ingredients:
2 TBSP olive oil
1 lb jumbo shrimp, shelled (I used pre-cooked)
1 TBSP minced garlic
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
1/4 cup seafood broth (I used in lieu of white wine, which I didn't have)
2 TBSP lemon juice
1 medium zucchini (original recipe called for 2, but made a way more noodles than I needed)

Directions:
Heat olive oil over medium heat and add garlic and red pepper, stirring for 1 minute.  Add shrimp to pan and heat (or cook if you used uncooked shrimp) about 2 minutes.  Season with salt and pepper and transfer to plate, leaving any liquid in the pan.  Increase heat to medium high and add seafood broth and lemon juice.  Add zucchini noodles and cook for 5 minutes, stirring frequently.  Return shrimp to the pan and mix well.  Add salt and pepper and serve.  I added some garlic bread for a side.

Greek Goddess Statue - Adding Some Class to My Decor

Our house has an elevated ceiling in the living room, and for a long time I debated on what to do in the two "nooks" that sit on the second level.  I knew I wanted to put some sort of statue up on the taller side, but I could never find one that looked quite right.  The other day, I walked into Trees n' Trends and saw a beautiful nude woman statue (in store or similar here).  Finally, I'd found the perfect muse for my nook!  I typically don't shop in that store because I find a lot of their items are overpriced, however, at $123.99 I had to take her home.

My poor husband had a hard time getting her up there (she probably weighs at least 70 lbs) but we finally got her set up and she looks gorgeous!  Next step: painting the back wall of those nooks burgundy to really make her pop!  In the meantime though, isn't she a beaut?!?!?

Curtains

Since we just did blinds, I've been dying to add window treatments to our downstairs master (along with about 100 other things).  I knew I wanted something dark, but I couldn't quite decide on doing a burgundy or an eggplant.  I searched around and finally scored with some clearance curtain scarves at Bed Bath & Beyond for $5 each.  They were 216" each so I realized with 9' ceilings I could cut one scarf in half for two curtain panels, and then use two more to drape over.  3 curtains x 2 windows = $30.  Plus I had 2 $5 off $15 coupons for BBB so I got them for $20!

Couple of notes if you decide to do this yourself:
1) The scarves were tapered on the ends, so when the curtains are closed the inside is tapered and thus a bit shorter than the outside.  Once I add in my beaded trim I think it will look fine but it took me a while to get used to this.

2) These curtains were a little stiff so they worked much better once I put them in the washing machine.  I did a delicates cycle just in case and then tumble dried low.  It made them much more pliable and easier to maneuver when hanging.

3) If you decide to do a drape like this you'll need a double rod curtain.  I also got these at Bed Bath & Beyond - 2 for $24 each with my 20% off coupon.  I ended up swapping out the finials and got two sets of two (in store) for $30 with coupons.

Otherwise, this was a simple project on the sewing machine - just needed to cut two of the scarves in half then add a pocket at the top to slide on the curtain rod.  Took about 15 minutes for all 4!  Total project cost = less than $100!

DIY Floating Pearl & Bead Vases

I recently had a bride ask me about making these for her wedding.  I've seen a bunch and never could figure out how to make the beads float.  Then I remembered when I used clear water beads, they went completely invisible in the vase when I added water.  Makes total sense now!

To get the look you simply mix in the colored filler (pearls, beads, etc) in random spots on top of the clear water beads.  Top the whole thing off with clear water beads and a floating candle and you have your "floating beads" centerpiece.
